WARNING: They are BIG!
I was going to let people run this directly in a browser, before I found out it takes about 1/2 hour to download over my cable modem. I promise, it gives you a very cool look at the 2003 Mars opposition, from three viewponts: how Mars moves in the sky, how it looks in a (big) telescope, and a view high above the sun showing the postion of both planets in their orbits.

You can allow time to run through the year. Drag a scrollbar to any four hour step during the year. Click on the scrollbar to jump ahead or back four hours, or one day. Buttons allow you to move one month at a time, jump to the first day of the year, the time of closest approach, or the program credits.

This project started as a scene for a video I am working on. When I got the basics working in Flash I saw how powerful it could be as an interactive Flash movie, so I added some controls to it. It can probably use some optomization to get the file size down, but you may never see it if I wait till I have time for that.

I did try zip compressing these files, but I only gained 1% on the file size, so they are native executables. Sorry but there is a cost involved in images that look good full screen at 1024 x 768.
